There is an old saying that goes something like, "the shoemakers son always goes barefoot". The same holds true for the web designer. We tend not to update our own websites like we do our clients sites. From what I have heard from friends and colleagues this is pretty much "normal" for most designers and developers.
This being said I am getting that itch to re-design my website. I find it's an interesting feeling putting myself on the spot and asking myself the same questions that I would ask a client;
* Who is my target audience? * Who is my secondary audience?
* What are my end goals for my site and how do I measure success?
* How will people find my site? Why would they come back?
* What should my end user be able to accomplish on my site?
The more sites I design and develop the more I have a "reserve" of instant information at my disposal and so when I read the questions above my brain takes to flight. All these ideas begin to swarm and it's just the task of grabbing one that works and running with it.
In the meantime I am promising myself to blog more often and it is possible the next time you visit me here you will see a new exciting design.
This is my new Fall resolution, since I'm not one for New Year's resolutions, this works for me. Now I only need an extra 6 hours in a day.
